Goal

Fill the grid column-by-column or row-by-row for the highest score.

Puzzle Mode

• Puzzle Mode starts from a preset solved board with some given words already locked.
• Easy gives more starting words. Medium gives fewer. Hard starts with only the first word.
• Use Hint on any puzzle square to see a definition and, on easier levels, a synonym.
• Puzzle answers are exact: once a word is accepted, that square is locked.

Guided Challenge

• Guided Challenge is a 3 by 3 Classic board. The normal score and colour rules still apply.
• Only the highlighted legal squares can be played. Use Hint to see a definition for a strong legal word.
• Select Next clue to see another legal high-scoring possibility. You may enter any legal word, not only the hinted one.

Column rules

• The first word can be any word in the dictionary you have selected, or select the Daily Challenge word to compare with others.
• Second word in a column shares the same sound with the first; that sound becomes the column’s sound for the rest of the column.
• Top word of a new column can only use letters from the previous column.
• Same spelling may reappear only with a different pronunciation (never twice in the same column).
• After the first word, new words need a word above. In the top row, new words need a word to the left.
• Every other new square must have both a word above it and a word to its left.
• Blue highlighted empty squares show the legal choices for the next move.

Two player rooms

• Enter your name, then click Create Room to make a room code.
• The second player uses their name and the room code that you give them from your new room, then clicks Join.
• Players take turns. Playing a hint word also uses your turn.
• To leave a room, select Leave Room.

Scoring

• Top 1,000 Red word: +5 • Top 10,000 Purple: +2 • Otherwise Black: +1
• Bonus - Letters subset of immediate left cell - Dark Green Cell: +20
• Bonus - Letters subset of full previous column Light Green Cell: +10
• Bonus - In a Column, Words with the same Sound Different Spelling - Yellow Cell : up to +20
• PENALTY - Use of the Hint Key will cost you 5 Points: -5

Classic clues

Classic hints show selectable words and cost 5 points. In the Classic clues option, Crossword clues are free definitions for strong legal answers; type your own answer to earn its normal score.
